"This quilt was received as a Christmas gift in 2001. I was serving in the army at the time and was barely granted leave due to the heightened state of alert after September 11, 2001. I had gotten back from a tour in Korea in June and received my belongings at Fort Bragg a month later. The 'Penguin' album I bought in Korea off eBay to hang in my room, but I never got a frame for it, so I took it to my parent's house with all the other records I bought about a week later.

My mother took the record cover to work and copied it and resized it quite a bit, probably to the size of the quilt and began making it. The picture does not do it justice, as there is hand painting for the penguin's eye and underbelly that is not visible in the picture.

I never used it while I was in Fort Bragg, since mold constantly grew in my quarters and I didn't want it to be ruined, but once I left the army and got a place of my own, I have it on my bed and is the focal point of my place. I don't think too many people have received a gift as personal as this. " -- Noah
