One Fan's Story:
by Randy Foley

September 5th 1970, East Town Theater, Detroit.

Mac headlined; opening: Springwell; 2nd: the Stooges. I don't recall Springwell's set. The Stooges were a bit erratic, as they had just lost their original bassist Dave Alexander, and saxophonist Andy Mackay was attempting to play the bass with little success. Singer Iggy Pop walked off the stage several times, and the set was eventually aborted.

Then came Mac. They were absolutely phenomenal! Playing songs from Kiln House, older material, and many old rousing blues and rock numbers a la Elvis Presley and Elmore James.

Jeremy Spencer was definitely the star of the show, though Christine McVie was making her presence known. The Detroit crowd was eating it all up, and demanded so many encores that the band ran out of material and ended the show singing the Pepsi commercial ("you've got a lot to live, and Pepsi's got a lot to give!") while holding up ale bottles to toast the enthusiastic crowd.

Out of over 500 concerts I have attended since 1966, that Mac show remains amongst my Top Five faves! The line-up was: Fleetwood, McVie, Christine, Kirwan, and Spencer. The band had also played the East Town the night before.
