July 28th, 2001 - Nissan Pavillion, Bristow, VA

by Andy (Daff Guy)

I am a fan of Jeffrey Gaines. He had me on the first song. He reminds me of a male, black, Lucinda Williams. In fact, he is the best opening act I've seen since Mary Chapin Carpenter was an opener. I thought that he looked a tad like Ricky Martin. (I can hear the laughing now, and yes, I was sober.)

I've never seen a busier concert. for those who feel the need to eat and drink, please do so before the concert starts. Then the guy leering at me, eww, and finally, to the kids in front of us who wanted to get onto the big screen, sit your ass down.

Only a few mentions about Stevie. She sounded a little ragged at the beginning. She looked tired at times. the tennis shoes were different. and the plumed hat made "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You" much less stale. And pulling her hair back made her look 10 years younger. I had hoped for "Songbird", but damnit, she just didnt have it in her.

Allen was playing a mean bass. And Waddy .. what do i have to say about him?..., and finally the drummer - girls - and those boys that care...he was hot. (Was he on the enchanted tour ? I dont remember).
