Michael Mastro Biography :
In 1975 Michael Mastro became the house photographer for Alex Cooley's
Electric Ballroom, The Great Southeast Music Hall, and The Agora
Ballroom, all in Atlanta Georgia. He shot for all the major record
companies for public relations, and did album covers for Hydra, and The
Dixie Dregs.
Several current stars were much younger when he first
photographed them: Brendan O'Brien (Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili
Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots) was 14 years old - he is now
vice-president of Sony Music; Peter Stroud (Pete Drudge, Sheryl Crow)
was trading collectable guitars and playing in Atlanta; Rick Richards
(The Georgia Satellites, Izzy Stradlin and the JuJu Hounds) was in a
couple of his earliest bands.
He did the first promo photos for The
Dixie Dregs (Capricorn Records), and The Producers (Portrait/CBS).
Throughout this time he worked as a graphic artist, designing several
independent CD's, as well as doing projects for Coca-Cola / Major League
Baseball, Nike, American Airlines, Capital Records, and more. He spent a
number of years as a Roadie and a Manger for a variety of bands, but
that's another story, for another time.
After a long hiatus, Michael has
returned to photography, both for corporate and musical accounts, while
continuing to do graphic design, and digital art. He lives with his wife
in Mobile , The Beautiful South and collects Baseball and Rock Music
memorabilia, and antique marbles.
