A jilted investor has filed a lawsuit in the Central Superior Court of Phoenix against Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks and her family, according to a clerk in the Central Superior Court records office. The suit, filed on May 26, accuses Nicks and family of lending credibility to Britney Marx, who allegedly borrowed money from a slew of investors, including the plaintiff, Dale R. Lumb, in order to build a no-kill animal shelter, according to the Associated Press. Marx is accused of walking away with $400,000 in monies collected from investors and never building the shelter in question. Nicks, along with her mother and brother, are being accused by Lumb of endorsing the shelter all the while failing to mention Marx's previous fraud convictions. As quoted by AP, Nicks' mother Barbara maintains the family's innocence. "God knows we had no idea she borrowed any money," she said. "It just kills me to think she borrowed money from people and didn't pay it back." Marx is slated to begin trial on theft and fraud charges on Monday (June 5, 1999). |
