March 6, 2009 - Allstate Arena, Rosemont, IL

I attended both nights at the Allstate Arena in Chicago and Fleetwood Mac were simply great. They are in top form and seem much happier on stage than on the "Say You Will" tour. First off, they have a beautiful stage set. Two large video screens behind the band and then six screens above, which move around during each song. They have lots of graphics and colorful images throughout the show.

They only have two additional musicians plus Mick's drum tech, but the sound is still very full and rocking. Of course they have Stevie's three background singers, who are terrific. And the song selection is really good, also much better than the last time out. I loved that they ended the encores with "Silver Springs", what a great way to send the audience back out into the real world.

Stevie is back to wearing all her trademark attire and looks lovely, and she is back to wearing more colorful clothing. She mixed it up so that she was not dressed the exact same the second night as she was the first. But at some point in each show she wears a maroon dress, and maroon boots, and also her tan boots later. One night she had a red shawl on for "Stand Back", and the other she had her black sparkle one on. She finally had her top hat back on for "Go Your Own Way", and that was great. I always missed her not wearing it. She was after all the first rock star to ever wear a top hat on stage. She looks absolutely amazing for her age and the audiences were going nuts for her, just as always. It was very cool to finally hear her sing "Storms", it is such a haunting song and the lyrics are so emotional. Overall her voice sounded really good, she hit a lot of the high notes in most of her songs.

Lindsey was brilliant, such a great player and showman. He is now so much more relaxed on stage and it makes the shows a lot more enjoyable. "I'm So Afraid" was particularly spectacular both nights. And the way Lindsey is interacting with Stevie on stage is so much more pleasant this tour. They really do appear to be at ease with each other finally. Mick and John were their usual selves, playing magnificently. All four of the band members were genuinely thrilled that the audiences were there and they kept saying so.

They only added one more Christine McVie song, "Say You Love Me" and did "Don't Stop", which they did last time. I thought they would add another one or two of her songs, and kind of wish they had done "Little Lies" or "Everywhere". But "SYLM" was great and oddly enough, Stevie sounded a bit better singing Chris' lead vocal than Lindsey did. I don't know why that surprised me, but it did.

I hope they do continue the tour and really hope they do record another album after it ends.
